HCG Diet For Vegetarians

by Dr. Dennis Clark

The need for protein is overrated for the HCG diet. Besides, veggies of all kinds offer plenty of it. The idea behind the meat choices is to limit dietary fat. Research is very clear on what the best diet would be, before, during, and after the HCG diet.

Just in case you are looking for a way to survive on the meat-centered HCG diet protocol without meat, here is an idea that will work perfectly: go vegan. Specifically, go vegan without grains. Here is an extreme version of how to do so at this link:

HCG Vegan Diet Protocol

My Comment

Sandy and Steve make some good points, although some of their explanations sound like voodoo science. Here is what I have found in the scientific literature: A grain-free vegan diet, raw or not, will be better for fat loss and lifelong weight management regardless of whether you go through the HCG diet protocol. Any advice that you see, including that from Sandy and Steve, about cleansing and detox is without scientific merit, even though it may sound reasonable. It may even be correct. It just has no scientific merit.

The three biggest flaws of almost all diets are: 1) too much protein; 2) too many grain-based foods, 2) too much animal-based food. I guarantee that you would not even be considering the HCG diet if you reduced those flaws. This will be a subject that I dig into with more depth later.

HCG Diet Information About Calories

by Dr. Dennis Clark

Good HCG diet information is hard to come by. Most folks who are thinking about doing the protocol worry about starving on such a very low calorie diet (500 calories per day). Yes, this would be a starvation diet without the hormone. Here is why HCG makes all the difference in keeping you from starving.

HCG Diets

The specific foods in limited amounts during this protocol are designed to support the fat burning metabolism that is directed by the HCG hormone. That is a mouthful, and if you have a fear of starving on this diet those words will not help. Here is what you must consider. Let us just say that you normally have a metabolic rate that requires 1500 to 2000 or more calories per day. It would be pretty simple math to say your metabolic rate would burn through 500 calories pretty fast. So the effective question to ask is where do the remainder of your calories come from while on the protocol.

They come from your own fat. Yes, you can count on at least 2000 calories from your own fat. Specifically, this is abnormal fat. You will see the result wherever you have it … usually belly, thighs, buttocks, or upper arms. For women, this also means breasts, depending on how much abnormal fat has accumulated in them.

The Visual

Now, to get really visual on how this works, note how I explain this to my clients. It goes like this. Imagine that you have a magic knife that you can use to cut off a slice of your own belly fat (without pain or other trauma … remember, this is your imagination at work here).

Slice off a good sized chunk, say about 2000 calories worth. Lay it out on your cutting board, sprinkle it with some salt, pepper, and garlic (okay, these are my favorite spices … use your own if you wish). Now put it on the grill, being careful not to let flames engulf it. It is fat, after all, and will burn really fast if you are not careful.

Whenever you feel that your new fat steak is done to your satisfaction, sit down to a nice dinner of 2000 calories and eat it. There you have it. You have eaten your own abnormal fat.

The great thing about the HCG hormone is that it directs your metabolism, through a signaling pathway in the hypothalamus of your brain, to effectively give you a fat steak from your own fat every day. So that is why the HCG diet is not a starvation diet. Is that a little clearer now?

Have fun with it!

How to Mess Up the HCG Diet

by Dr. Dennis Clark

Weightloss pyramid.

This is easy to do

Follow bad advice!

You may already know that most diet advice is bad, because so many diets themselves are bad to start with. However, the [TAG-TEC] HCG diet[/TAG-TEC] is a good one, and it has been a good one for more than 50 years. Nevertheless, lots of bad advice about this protocol is in circulation.

The internet abounds in bad advice. Doctors have bad advice. Nutritionists and fitness trainers have bad advice. Friends, relatives, colleagues, marketers (especially marketers!) – are all sources of bad advice. They can also be sources of good advice

Your challenge is to sort out which is which and do the right thing.

Getting Good Advice on the HCG Diet

This may take a little effort on your part: Start by reading “Pounds and Inches,” the 1954 book on the [TAG-TEC]HCG weight loss diet[/TAG-TEC] by its creator, Dr. A.T.W. Simeons. Then compare all other advice with what you learn there. You will find no mention in this book of cleansing, detoxing, homeopathic HCG, recommended supplements, or many other modifications of the protocol.

Is any of this new stuff any good? Some is, and some isn’t. Cleansing and detoxing are fine, just not required. Homeopathic HCG has no scientific support and may not even work (it contains no HCG at all). Supplements may be helpful if you choose the right ones. (Skip acai berry and hoodia … these are ridiculous.)

Just one more pointer: You must get the right dose of HCG on a daily basis. This can be either in the form of injections, which is the original form, or in the form of sublingual drops. Either one works, as long as you get the right amount of HCG daily.

Where to Get the Original Simeons Book for Free

The Simeons book is free on many websites. This is all you need for getting started. I have a pretty clean copy that you can get when you fill out the report request form in the righthand column of this page. It is just a little bonus thank you from me.

Who Wants to Be Fat? How Fattening Diets Can Help You Lose Fat

by Dr. Dennis Clark

Scientific research and explanations for weight gain and obesity reach back more than a century. Based on this research, modern advice on how to combat fat gain is almost entirely wrong. Diet and exercise are ineffective, no matter what your doctor or other uninformed experts tell you.

FATTENING DIETS TO THE RESCUE

To address the promise of the title of this article, fattening diets are instructive because they tell us how people get fat when they want to. This means that, theoretically, you can do the opposite and get slim. Of course, nothing is that simple. Nevertheless, this will point you in the right direction. I will first explain how to get fat, and then I will suggest how you can use this information to lose fat and never get fat again.

FATTENING DIETS OF SUMO WRESTLERS

Champion sumo wrestlers of Japan have to get fat and stay that way. They attain a typical weight of more than 300 pounds by their early twenties. The most comprehensive English-language research article on this topic was published by Tsuneo Nishizawa in The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition in 1976.

Nishizawa reported that the elite group of sumo wrestlers consumed on average almost 5,500 calories worth of pork stew every day. This stew consisted of 780 grams of carbohydrate, 100 grams of fat, and 365 grams of protein. The second tier of wrestlers averaged 5,120 calories per day – based on 1,000 grams of carbohydrates, 165 grams of protein, and 50 grams of fat. This second group weighed as much as the first, although they were significantly fatter and less muscular.

The elite group averaged 57 percent of their calories in carbohydrates and 16 percent in fat. The second group averaged 80 percent of their calories in carbohydrates and 9 percent in fat. Regarding fat, both are considerably below what most public health authorities in America would refer to as a low-fat diet.

The message is that pathological obesity in young men in their prime is caused by a very low-fat, high-carbohydrate diet. Now ask yourself, does this resemble anything like your diet?

FATTENING DIETS OF AFRICAN ROYALTY

This goes back much further into history. In 1857, European explorers reported that Abysinnian nobility in West Africa followed the custom of fattening their wives to such an extent that could not stand upright. A typical beauty would reach immense size, measured as a 52-inch chest, 24-inch arms, and 30-inch thighs.

On hindsight, the fattening diet of these women consisted of at least 1,000 extra calories per day in carbohydrate, and often more. That’s it. Think about this for a moment regarding dietary habits of modern Americans. What would it take to add 1,000 extra calories per day of carbohydrates if you just consider bread, tortillas, bagel, cookies and cakes, crackers, chips, and sodas? One and half Big Gulps alone would be 1,000 calories!

THE OBVIOUS TAKE-HOME LESSON

Avoid carbohydrates unless you WANT to get fat!

Specifically, avoid carbs that come packaged in nutritionally-deficient foods. Avoid white foods in general. This does not mean fruits and vegetables. It means starchy or processed foods that give you carbs and almost nothing else. The negative impact of these foods is huge.

By the way, diet foods and drinks that are sweetened with artificial sweeteners do not help. Some are so toxic that they should never have been approved for human consumption. That’s a topic for another day. I suggest you do some serious research on them, and I strongly recommend that you avoid them completely. Sugar-free sweet foods and drinks will kill you faster than a high-carb diet will.

WHY THIS IS SIMPLE-MINDED ADVICE

Fine, avoiding high-carb foods will keep you from getting fat. However, if you are already fat, it is more than likely that this strategy will not be sufficient for slimming down and staying slim. The main reason is that, once you are fat, you have already developed a tremendous imbalance in several kinds of hormones. The most important ones are the steroid hormones (specifically estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone – for men and women alike) and the protein hormones that include human growth hormone, leptin, and insulin, among others.

The fundamental reason that weight loss diets have such a high failure rate is that they do not address the underlying hormone imbalance that keeps you fat and that gets you fat again on the rebound from prior weight loss. By the way, exercise will also fail for the same reason. Once you have a fat person’s metabolism, you will continue to have a fat person’s metabolism – even if you have lost weight – when your hormones are imbalanced.

4 Weight Loss Rumours Uncovered

by Dr. Dennis Clark

The weight loss industry is rife with rumours. Almost everywhere you turn you will see lotions that claim to remove fat from whichever area of the body you apply them to, diets that claim you can lose weight by just eating your favourite junk food and products that claim they can magically make your fat melt away. Many of the rumours behind these products are misleading and in some cases completely untrue. In this article I aim to set the record straight and uncover four of these weight loss myths.
Rumour 1: You can Spot Reduce Fat- Many gels, lotions, pills, diets and exercise programs claim that you can burn fat from specific areas of your body. For example, certain products state that they can burn belly fat or leg fat. Other myths suggest that fat can be removed from particular areas of the body just by exercising that body part e.g. by doing stomach crunches you can burn belly fat.
Unfortunately, the truth is that you cannot spot reduce fat. Whilst it would be nice to do a specific exercise or take a special product and remove body fat from problem areas, in reality this is just not possible. The only way to banish fat from stubborn areas of your body is to reduce your overall body fat levels and the best way to do this is through good old diet and exercise.
Rumour 2: The Best Way to Lose Weight is through Cardiovascular Exercise- Before you continue reading let me say that I am not discounting the effectiveness of cardiovascular exercise as a fat burning solution. However, it is not necessarily the best choice and you should consider the other options that are available.
Improving your diet can be a great way to lose weight. If you are currently eating unhealthy foods then you can really drop the pounds by substituting a few more healthy options into your diet. Even if you are eating a relatively healthy diet, trimming a few calories from your daily intake can work wonders for your overall weight loss. Cardio does help you burn fat but you have to remember it is not the only piece of the puzzle.
Rumour 3: Crash Diets lead to Long Term Weight Loss- Crash diets do work in the short term because you will be consuming a lot less calories than normal. However, in the long term your body adapts and goes into starvation mode which slows down your metabolic rate drastically, meaning that although you are eating fewer calories your are also burning a lot less. Furthermore, by depriving your body of calories you can stop it functioning properly and do some serious damage to your overall health.
When it comes to eating, the best way to lose weight in the long term is simply to eat more sensibly. Identify areas of your diet which require improvement and then make moderate changes. For example, if you are eating a bag of crisps every day try to swap it for a piece of fruit instead. If you feel you are eating too much try to slightly reduce the size of your portions. Small dietary changes such as these are a much better way to burn fat than the drastic and dangerous changes suggested by crash diets.
Rumour 4: HCG can help you Lose Weight- HCG or Human Chorionic Gonadotropin is a hormone produced by the placenta of pregnant women. It was originally used to determine whether or not a woman was pregnant but more recently has been touted as a weight loss solution. There are a number of people claiming that HCG can help you lose weight. However, none of these claims are backed up by evidence. At the time of writing, not one medical or scientific study can prove that HCG is an effective weight loss supplement.
I hope this article allows you to separate some of the fact from fiction in the health and fitness industry. There are a lot of myths, lies, rumours and half truths floating around the industry in the hope that you will believe them and part with your hard earned cash. However,if you look at each of them in a sensible and rational way you should be able to avoid these weight loss scams with relative ease.
