HCG Diet For Vegetarians

The need for protein is overrated for the HCG diet. Besides, veggies of all kinds offer plenty of it. The idea behind the meat choices is to limit dietary fat. Research is very clear on what the best diet would be, before, during, and after the HCG diet.

Just in case you are looking for a way to survive on the meat-centered HCG diet protocol without meat, here is an idea that will work perfectly: go vegan. Specifically, go vegan without grains. Here is an extreme version of how to do so at this link:

HCG Vegan Diet Protocol

My Comment

Sandy and Steve make some good points, although some of their explanations sound like voodoo science. Here is what I have found in the scientific literature: A grain-free vegan diet, raw or not, will be better for fat loss and lifelong weight management regardless of whether you go through the HCG diet protocol. Any advice that you see, including that from Sandy and Steve, about cleansing and detox is without scientific merit, even though it may sound reasonable. It may even be correct. It just has no scientific merit.

The three biggest flaws of almost all diets are: 1) too much protein; 2) too many grain-based foods, 2) too much animal-based food. I guarantee that you would not even be considering the HCG diet if you reduced those flaws. This will be a subject that I dig into with more depth later.

All the best in natural health,
Dr. D

If I don’t eat much protein, and it doesn’t come from grain-based food, what should I be eating on the HCG vegetarian diet. I can’t eat just veggies.

    what’s my answer?

Can you supplement with a rice or pea protein powder?

  4. by Janet

I’m vegetarian and prefer to be vegan. What protein can I use and how much? I cannot find the pea-protein and see I need to be using at least 2 protein sources. Is it ok to use a veggie or egg white protein. Again, how much is adequate to protect my husbands muscles during this HCG diet?

I prefer a mostly vegetarian diet, but I note that the HCG diet says “don’t mix vegetables” I wonder what the problem is with mixing vegetables for instance in a salad – lettuce, cucumbers, tomatoes, bell peppers.
Also, if I replaced a meal with a Green Smoothie containing greens and fruits, would this be a problem?
    Thank you!

Yes, the ban on mixing vegetables always puzzled me, too. I experimented with mixing without any trouble whatsoever. Just be sure to stick to the allowed veggies.

Egg white protein would be great. You can also find rice protein. The standard meal using eggs while on the protocol is one yolk with the whites of 4 eggs. That should give you a good idea of how much to take in per meal.

    What about quinoa? Flax? Lentils?

  12. by Dr. Dennis Clark

Quinoa: ‘grain’ with too much carb content; Flax: seed with too much oil content; Lentils: legume with too much carb content.

Could you please tell me why you have to mix so many egg whites into an egg on the hcg diet, I have been filling the protein protocol and have lost over 3kg in 5 days which I am very pleased about, but I miss my eggs, can I have them fôr breakfast and still have protein for lunch and dinner, thankyou

  14. by Dr. Dennis Clark

Hi, Jackie…Yes, it is because the fatty stuff in eggs is all in the yolk. That is the food category (i.e., fat) that you must avoid or keep to a very low amount during the protocol. A little won’t hurt, so you can have one yolk at a time with whites from other eggs. Enjoy the ONE!

how about miso and braggs? 1 tbs of miso is only 30 calories while braggs have 0 cal.
And how many times during the day can have the pea/brown rice protein. Thank you

how about miso and braggs? is organic tofu totally out?

Hi I do not eat meat nor eggs, could you please recommend a suitable protein.

  18. by Dr. Dennis Clark

Hi, Irene: You just have to make sure that you keep the intake of sugars and other carbs ultra low, so see what is on the label of those products.

Hi, Karin: Vegans have had a challenge on this diet. However, you can find plant-based protein products from soy, rice, and pea. Take care on using any such products regarding the carbohydrates that come with them. That could undermine your progress.

Hi I am a vegan and I’ve been doing Hcg diet for three weeks now .I’ve lost 16 lbs. I have 3 more weeks to go.
For breakfast I have one hand full of cherries or strawberries, for lunch I have vanilla fitfood vegan lite protein blended with cold water and ice with 3 strawberries I make it thick. (by xymogen)I buy on Amazon it comes in chocolate too. This protein will build muscles. About 1pm I have salad with apple cider vinegar with garlic powder& basil for dressing. Then at 3pm I have in a sm. bowl green leaf lettuce with ACV dressing for snack and 2 melba toasts. Than at 5:30 pm I make stir fry with no oil with cabbage ,onion, portabella mushrooms cook lightly so cabbage is still crunchy but onion& mushrooms cook longer ,I flavor with Tapatio hot sauce .Than at 8:30pm I make my vegan choc. very thick frosty at night. I just put in blender a lot of ice small amount cold water 1 scoop and 1/2 of protein and mix .I have same menu of food everyday and its working for me my Dr. I get shots from is impressed with how well my weight loss is coming along .My husband has been doing the Hcg drops and following my vegan menu too and in 1 week lost 8 lbs. Best wishes to all !
