The amount of HCG that is required by this diet protocol was established by Dr. A.T.W. Simeons more than 50 years ago. Nothing has changed regarding this well-established dosage. The most important detail, therefore, is to get the right dosage, meaning not too little and not too much, on a daily basis.
This simple requirement has been twisted around so much that it is important to restate it often. You do not need to take more HCG if you are more overweight. Dosage is the same for everybody. You must take the right amount to get the right results.
Fortunately, oral forms of HCG are now available, which include HCG drops. Unfortunately, not all products are the same. In fact, some products contain no hormone at all.
The Idea Behind HCG Drops
Certain parts of your body other than your digestive tract can absorb substances of many kinds. One of the best such areas are the moist membranes under your tongue. This means that you can use sublingual (under the tongue) drops to take advantage of this absorptive property.
Manufacturers of drops have determined the amount and frequency of dosage for matching the original protocol from Dr. Simeons. A typical dose is 5 drops twice per day, 7 days per week (i.e., no day off each week, as previously recommended by Dr. Simeons). The reason that the dosage seems different for drops is that the efficiency of absorption is less than standard dosing in the original protocol. Administering it twice daily makes up for that difference.
Different Kinds Of Products
So far there seem to be three main types of products. The first and most important type includes those that contain HCG in the right amounts. Although that may seem obvious, the reason it is important to be aware of it is because the other two products contain no hormone or almost no hormone.
The most common types of drops are homeopathic products. One of the principles of homeopathic medicine is the power of dilution. Typically, homeopathic products are prepared by diluting them so extensively that none of the original substance remains. It is unfortunate that homeopathic HCG products are labeled as HCG products at all. It is doubly unfortunate that these products are not always clearly defined. Online suppliers simply offer HCG products by name, often without making it clear that they are homeopathic dilutions of HCG.
A less common yet even more misleading type of product includes those that are labeled as herbal equivalents of HCG. There is no such thing as herbal HCG. HCG is a human protein that is not made by any plants, bacteria, or fungi.
If anything, the only non-human source of HCG is from a genetically engineered cell culture from hamsters. The production process involves growing genetically engineered Chinese Hamster Ovary (CHO) cells in large scale cell culture. These are the cells that have been genetically engineered to contain key human DNA for making HCG. Although the HCG that is made by CHO cells is identical to native human HCG, it is not complete. Nevertheless, most forms of genetically engineered HCG are as active as the full native form. In other words, this is still real HCG.
How To Tell What You Have
The easiest way to tell what a product really is, before you buy it, is to examine the label. A real HCG product will have the amount of HCG clearly marked on the label in International Units. For example,12,000 IU is a typical amount for a 30-day protocol.
If the product has the HCG content labeled with an ‘X’ (such as 10X), this indicates a dilution factor for a homeopathic product.
For products labeled as herbal HCG, there should be no HCG on the contents label at all. Such products will just have a list of herbs instead.
A final, not so easy way to tell what your product is if you are already using one is by your reaction to it. You can, of course, lose weight on a 500 calorie per day diet even if you do not use HCG. However, this is a starvation diet, so you will be exceedingly hungry while starving, at least until you go numb to it, if you are not getting the real hormone in the right dose.
If you can get an impedance device (bathroom scale or handheld device) for measuring your body fat composition, this will give you the ultimate telltale result of your protocol. This will be reduced percent body fat from using real HCG or no body fat change if using a non-HCG product that claims to contain or act like the real thing.
